Research

Lidia’s research concentrates on the documentation and description of some of the endangered varieties of Neo-Aramaic. She is working on a grammar of a Christian dialect from north-eastern Iraq called Diyana-Zariwaw. Her methodology combines a diachronic view with a broader linguistic approach, taking into account also language contact and dialectology.

She obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Warsaw in Hebrew Studies and next her MPhil from the University of Cambridge in Hebrew and Aramaic. Her main focus is thus on Semitic languages and their evolution, studied especially from a comparative perspective. She is also interested in the non-Semitic languages that Hebrew and Aramaic have been in contact with, as well as in a more theoretical linguistic framework of language description and typology.
