Research

Dr James Aitken is the author of The Semantics of Blessing and Cursing in Ancient Hebrew (2007) and a contributor to Ancient Hebrew Inscriptions: Corpus and Concordance, vol. 2 (2004). He is also the co-editor of Challenges in Jewish-Christian Relations (2006); Jewish Perspectives on Hellenistic Rulers (2007); On Stone and Scroll: Essays in Honour of Graham Ivor Davies (2011); and, most recently The Continuum Companion to the Septuagint (forthcoming). His research interests span ancient Judaism, the Hebrew Bible, the Hebrew language and lexicography and Greek-Hebrew bilingualism. Dr Aitken is currently involved in an educational project, 'Artefacts of Ancient Judaism: A teaching site utilizing library resources', which is supported by the Higher Education Academy and CARET and he is a member of the advisory board of the Historical and Theological Lexicon of the Septuagint project (Strasbourg).  He is currently completing a monograph on the Septuagint within the context of ancient education.
