IDENTITIES IN ISRAEL/PALESTINE

On Tuesday 12 May at 5.00pm, the Woolf Institute and FAMES will hold its termly Muslim-Jewish Relations Panel. The theme for Easter Term will be Identities in Israel/Palestine. The event will be chaired and introduced by Esther-Miriam Wagner (Woolf Institute).

Speakers:

Moshe Behar (University of Manchester) - Thoughts on Modern Middle Eastern Jewish Thought

Holding a PhD in Comparative Politics from Columbia University, Moshe Behar is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Manchester. His work mainly addresses the phenomenon of nationalism in the Arab and non-Arab Middle East and his recent project is the source book Modern Middle Eastern Jewish Thought, Writings on Identity, Politics, and Culture, 1893-1958 (Brandeis, 2013).

Menachem Klein (Bar-Ilan University) - Lives in Common: Arabs and Jews in Jerusalem, Jaffa and Hebron

Menachem Klein teaches in the Department of Political Science, Bar-Ilan University, Israel, but will be in the UK over the next few months. He was a team member of the Geneva Initiative Negotiations in 2003. He has advised both the Israeli government and the Israeli delegation for peace talks with the PLO (2000) and was a fellow at Oxford University and a visiting professor at MIT.

The panel will last for an hour with a further 30 minutes for discussion and questions.
