The Fathership of God in Early Rabbinic Liturgy
Prof. Stefan Reif
God is variously addressed as “Father” in the early rabbinic liturgy. Use will be made of the relevant linguistic, theological and liturgical data to analyse these usages and their origins. How, for instance, do they relate to the Hebrew Bible, to rabbinic literature, and to early Christianity and Islam? The aim of the seminar is to trace the overall theological chronology of this liturgical notion and to assess its early evolution.
