Something’s Got to Give: Reconstructing Jewish Medieval Philosophy

Michael Engel, Post-Doctoral Researcher (University of Cambridge)

In my talk I will compare the study of Jewish and Latin medieval philosophical traditions in modern academia. Following a short historiographical account, I will argue that scholars of both traditions ought to be more aware of what is going on “on the other side”, in order to improve certain methodological deficiencies of their own tradition. This ought to be done without neglecting the particular features of the different philosophical traditions and their corresponding academic disciplines.
Following the talk we hope that you will join us at a local pub (exact locale to be determined) to continue the discussions and collegial interaction.
