Various projects are being undertaken to document spoken dialects of North-Eastern Neo-Aramaic, some of them highly endangered. These include grammars and lexicons of the dialects of the Assyrian Christians of Urmi (NW Iran), Bedyel (NE Iraq) and the Baz region (SW Turkey). The work is based on extensive fieldwork among Assyrian communities around the world, including in Iraq, the Caucasus and Central Asia, carried out by Prof. Geoffrey Khan and a Research Assistant, Nineb Lamassu, who is also helping with the transcription of recordings.
